Tourists forced to write “sorry” 500 times for breaking lockdown in India

Each of 10 foreigners from Israel, Mexico, the US, and Australia had to write “I did not follow the rules of lockdown so I am so sorry,” 500 times as a punishment

Violating the lockdown rules in the Tapovan area of the Indian city of Rishikesh turned out pretty bad for a group of foreigners.

In April 2020, ten tourists from Israel, the US, Mexico, and Australia were captured while taking a stroll in the area. None of them adhered to the social distancing rules.

The area was under a 21-day lockdown amid the spread of the new coronavirus. All citizens and visitors had to follow strict guidelines.

For violating the rules, each individual of the group had to write: “I did not follow the rules of lockdown so I am so sorry,” 500 times as a punishment, NDTV reports.

Sub-inspector Vinod Kumar Sharma said that there were around 500 foreign visitors to Tapovan. Many of them often violate the rules.

By giving the tourist this Bart Simpson-like punishment, the police wanted to send a strong message to everybody who was taking the lockdown lightly.
