A 20-year-old protestor tried to block the traffic in the Czech city of Mlada Boleslav by applying a large quantity of super-glue on her hand. By sticking it to the road surface while wearing banners, she was trying to alarm the city’s citizens about the consequences of the climate change
Sticking her hand to the road with a super-glue and blocking the traffic in the city of Mlada Boleslav, the Czech Republic.
That was the plan of a climate activist to alarm people about the consequences of global climate change.
“I’m here because there still isn’t an adequate response to the climate crisis. The situation is far more serious than we are admitting,” said the 20-ish-year-old activist in a video before her protest.
In addition to the gluing, she was wearing a banner stating: “I’m horrified how much we are ignoring the climate crisis.”
“We’re facing extreme weather conditions, heat waves, and droughts. That’s what we are trying to point out. We want to change the course of our society,” said a man behind the camera recording the activist gluing a hand to the road.
The actions of the activist didn’t go unnoticed by the city’s authorities.
After a few minutes, the police arrived. Once they realized the woman is glued to the road, they called in help from the EMS.
“The paramedics, as well as firefighters from Mlada Boleslav, were sent to the scene,” said Mlada Boleslav’s EMS’s spokeswoman, Petra Homolova.
The firefighters first asked the activist if she was willing to get unglued, to which she said yes.
“With the help of larger volumes of solvent, the glue loosened which made it possible to get the activist off the road, ” Homolova added.
The paramedics transported the activist to the hospital for minor injuries caused by the glue.
Although it was not the first time the very same activist disturbed the traffic in the city. A week before the incident, she sat down in the middle of the road with banners created to raise awareness about climate change.
